Softball Bats

What length Softball Bat do I need?

Place the bat knob at the center of your chest and extend the barrel out toward your fingertips. If you can touch the end of the bat with your fingertips, the bat is an appropriate length.

What does Soft Ball Bar Drop" mean? and how do I know what drop I should use?

Drop is the difference between the inches and ounces, usually displayed as a minus sign on the bat.  For example a 30" and 17 oz. bat will be a drop -13

Players 10 and under usually play with a high drop.  10 and older will probably use a -10 and then, of course, the advance -9 or -8.

How do I know what drop weight I should use?

To find out which drop weight you’re able to control, use the following two tests:

  1. Multiple Swings: Swing your softball bat multiple times in a row. If your arms feel tired and the bat feels heavy, you’ll want to try the next highest drop weight.
  2. Extended Hold: Hold your softball bat horizontally away from your body. If you can maintain this position for 45 seconds, this could be a good drop weight for you.

What is the difference in Softball bat components?

Aluminum or alloy-based bats are cheaper than composite.  Composite bats are typically heavier and have more power.   Aluminum bats can have a sting and so batting gloves can be helpful.

TIP: Bat Speed and Bat Control are most important factors to purchase a bat.

TIP: Bat Speed is the number one supplier of power no matter what bat is used.
